Today we are going to introduce you some popular songs in 1990s
Hotel California (Cola & Cindy)
“Hotel California” is one of the Rock classics in the pop music history. It became the champion of the billboard when it was promoted in 1976. It also consolidated the place of Eagles in America . All of the music critics praised that they are the greatest Rock band in America .
Don Henely, the one who wrote and sang this song said that the lyrics were reflecting the cruel reality which they had to face of the Hollywood life. Everyday was just like Halloween for them, was filled with sex, drugs and different challenges of their spirits. However, this song evoked criticisms of Ethics Guys. The reason was because that after the Vietnam War in 1960s and the hippie activity of the Enlightenment in American society became open day by day, teenagers who used marijuana and took drugs to relax themselves had increased. What’s more, many music artists looked for their inspirations by taking psychedelics. It was the worst demonstration. In the American music circles of 1970s, many important entertainers were died of over-taking drugs, including the vocal of The Doors, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
Many Ethics Guys worried about the bad examples would ruin the society; therefore, they said that Rock-n-roll corroded people’s mind and instigated the young people to take drugs and commit crimes. So, they appealed the radio station not to broadcast the song like this. They even destroyed a lot of Rock CDs on street. Hence, “Hotel California,” this hit song became the target of public criticism. The Ethics Guys censured the song was described a paradise of drug-takers and the headquarters of Satan.
As time goes by, the charm of this song is never reduced. By the sediment of times, it becomes a masterpiece of Western Music. The double guitar performance in the last of the song becomes the most classic part; it would affect the whole song even you only change a musical notation.
Moon River (Paula)
"Moon River" is a song composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961. Moon River, wider than a mile: Moon River, you are wider than a mile. The singer is addressing to the river as a person. Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker: it means Moon River make my dreams and also break my heart. two drifters: Referring the singer and the river. It’s form Mark Twain’s novel “the adventures of huckleberry fin”. In the story, the little boy Huckleberry ran away from his home, and adopt by the rich; but he couldn’t stand the society restricted him and ran away again. He met a little black boy, Tim. They travel down the river Mississippi by bamboo raft. They experience lots of interesting things. Just like the movie breakfast at tiffany’s, the young writer Paul come to New York City to find his dream; and the country girl Holly; they are two drifters. There's such a lot of world to see: There are many, many things to see. It implies there are still a lot for the two to explore. We're after the same rainbow's end: We are pursuing the same happiness. Be after means look for. The rainbow's end refers to happiness. The western think that rainbow’s end is a wonderland; it’s not heaven, but a beautiful and far place. My huckleberry Friend: As a child, Mercer picked huckleberries in the summer. To him, the berries had a personal connection with a carefree boyhood, strengthened by association with Mark Twain's character Huckleberry Finn. It means “old friends” The main characters name Huckleberry, he and his friend, Tim; they have deep friendship while they were wandering around. So my huckleberry friend means the unique and unchangeable and very close friend to us. The movie still mentions about the huckleberry, they steal mask form the shop, Paul wear Huckleberry hound mask on Halloween.
About the story behind moon river
Mancini and Mercer were eventually awarded four Oscars each, including one, in 1962, for best movie song with Moon River, from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey Hepburn's singing voice was threadlike, and extremely limited in range, though always in tune. But Mercer faced some obstacles in getting to a final concept of a song for her.
He had grown up in Savannah, Georgia and, with memories of its waterways, started a song called Blue River, but discovered that the title was already in use. He tried using the opening words "I'm Holly" but discarded that as banal. Mancini took a month to compose exactly the right melody to suit the waif-like good-time girl. In the movie, Hepburn sang the song herself, sitting with a guitar on the fire escape of a New York apartment, and the result was charming.
Mancini later reported that after the very first preview screening of the film, the president of Paramount Pictures puffed a cigar and announced that the song had to be removed. The normally gentle Hepburn told him firmly that it would be over her dead body. In spite of the movie's success, Paramount still seemed cagey about the actress's singing and on the "soundtrack" album; her simple vocal-plus-guitar was replaced by a sweeping Mancini orchestral version. Henry Mancini had said that: “There have been more than a thousand versions of "Moon River", but hers is unquestionably the definitive one.” Hers means Audrey Hepburn. Only months after Hepburn's death in 1993 her version was released on an album entitled Music from the Films of Audrey Hepburn. Now let’s hear the original version of Moon River
In the first flush of its release, more than a million copies of the sheet music were sold. Andy William’s recording and subsequent performances became one of his biggest hits. And also about five hundred other known recorded versions exist. Moon River crops up in unexpected places. Johnny Mercer's hometown was named Moon River in honor of him and this song.
The Rose (Cherry)
The rose, one of my favorite songs, is like true love meaning, which can let us know how to give and how to cherish our love for anyone we love. This song’s original singer is Bette Midler, and it was published in 1979-1980. Besides, the movie” The Rose “cooperates with this song. After that, this song was covered version by many singers. The lyric, you’re love is like a razor. My heart is just a scar, is the Bette Midler’s favorite lyric in this song. Thus, she thinks rose can represent its meaning. Love is the most beautiful and cruel, in the contrast, it can bring hope and happiness to us in life. Sometimes, we may be hurt deeply but don’t feel despair, as well as don’t feel down.
